Portable Ubuntu is great application for Windows. Period. If you want to use Ubuntu but not go through the dual-boot process, then Portable Ubuntu is great. 

Portable Ubuntu is a stand-alone package that runs a fairly standard (i.e. orange-colored, GNOME-based) version of the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution.
