DExposE2 is an Exposé clone that brings the same functionality to Windows XP and Vista.

Switcher is another Exposé clone and is only for Vista. However, this is one of the best Exposé clones I have seen thus far.

SmallWindows was one of the first clones and is now not maintained anymore. Stick with the first two.

A developer called Crash-X has created a clever app that tricks your iPhone into thinking it’s on WiFi when it’s really on 3G. Cool huh? But why would you want this? Well, for one, you can install appstore apps larger than 10mb over the 3g and you can use Voice over IP apps such as Fring on 3G! (Think free phone calls, no minutes, everywhere you have 3G). This is a great app – but it’s only availiable on Cydia.

By default, his app only activates itself when you load Fring or Appstore.

This MobileSubstrate library can trick any application into thinking that it is on Wifi even though it is on a cellular data connection. There are a lot of possible uses for that, but for me the main use is being able to use VoIP programs like Fring over 3G. You can configure what apps get tricked by adding the app’s bundle identifier to “/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/VoIPover3G.plist”. Currently, the default is to trick only appstore and fring. If you remove or rename the VoIPover3G.plist ALL applications will be tricked. This is not recommended though, because for a lot of apps its makes sense to know whether they are on wifi or 3G.

If you use it for VoIP, it might be that your internet provider blocks the ports that are needed for the application to work. This cannot be circumvented by this library.

Note: If your provider forbids VoIP and catches you and you have to pay for it, I am not responsible!

The car above – the Hyundai Genesis, is the ultimate Apple Fanboy car. Such a bold statement – but why? Well, step inside and you find yourself in a vehicle swamped in Apple goodies. It has three Mac computers (including a MacBook Air and two Mac minis), an iPod touch and an iPhone 3G. Not to mention that the passengers have access to all three computers by way of two Apple wireless keyboards perched on flip-down tray tables with an 8.4-inch VGA headrest monitor for both rear-seat passengers to play with. Also included is a 20″ Apple Cinema Display in the trunk – I don’t know why it’s there, but it’s there….

RIDES MAGAZINE TRANSFORMS HYUNDAI GENESIS SEDAN INTO TECHNOLOGY CENTER ON WHEELS FOR SEMA SHOW 2008

Hyundai Motor America and RIDES magazine are teaming up to develop a customized Hyundai Genesis for the 2008 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. The RIDES Genesis will be the ultimate in technology, style and refinement, containing the latest in technology both inside and out. As added incentive to visit the Hyundai display, 5,000 RIDES Digital Genesis iTunes cards will be distributed from the car’s Wi-Fi network during the show at the Las Vegas Convention Center from Nov. 4 – Nov. 7, 2008.

“This Genesis perfectly suits the mobile executive, with multiple Mac computers and its own mobile Wi-Fi network,” said Ben Harris, associate publisher, RIDES. “All of the modifications compliment the Genesis’ natural attributes and emphasize the sleek look and luxury interior. We are looking forward to the SEMA show and displaying this amazing vehicle.”

Inside, the RIDES Genesis will feature the latest in digital accessories including two Mac Mini computers, a MacBook Air, iPod Touch, iPhone 3G, high-speed Wi-Fi internet connection and movie theater-quality surround sound. The trunk will house its own Mac mini computer, a 20-inch Apple Cinema Display and a motorized tray containing the mouse and keyboard for the rear computer. Within the center console will be the iPhone 3G, Mac Book Air laptop and wireless keyboard and mouse for the Mac Mini mounted on the rear deck. Each passenger in the back seat has their own computer with internet connectivity. The 8.4-inch VGA headrest monitors are wrapped in the original leather to maintain the OE look and feel, while the seats contain suede accents.

At the Hyundai booth, SEMA attendees will view clean exterior modifications to compliment the high-tech interior. Modifications include 22-inch custom-made staggered fitment MHT three-piece wheels, Pirelli tires, custom-molded front body kit and side skirts, lowered suspension and smoked headlights. Custom dual-tip stacked exhausts and custom-molded rear bumper accentuate the metallic silver and blue paint job.

If you think the touch features on the Apple iPhone and the iPod Touch were impressive, think again. You’ll be “blown away by what’s coming in Windows 7,” according to a blog post by Hilton Locke, a software test engineer at Microsoft.

Windowswill add touch technology to the operating system. And while moving files around using your fingertips on a mobile might not speed things up that much, touch technology can really make a difference on a standard-sized computer screen.

The revelation follows on from the first sightings of the Dell Latitude XT tablet (see it in action here). This new machine has what’s called ‘capacitive touch capability’, meaning that you won’t have to apply any pressure for the tablet to recognise your input. Rival tablets usually require a certain amount of force for the system to recognise user interaction.

The lightweight machine weighs just under 2kg and features a 12.1-inch convertible tablet screen, making it one of the thinnest and lightest convertibles available, Dell said.

Emerging multi-touch capabilities

Dell says the Latitude XT tablet is a “forerunner to emerging multi-touch capabilities that allow the use of more than one finger for tasks such as zoom and repositioning a picture”. Sounds promising for future models. “We are listening and aim to exceed customers’ expectations,” said Margaret Franco, director of Dell’s product group.

Trade-offs

“Until now, customers have been forced to make trade-offs in tablet functionality to have usable systems. With capacitive touch technology, the Dell Latitude XT will revolutionise the way customers interact with their systems, allow customers to take full advantage of tablet technology and enable customers to get more done with greater speed and precision,” Franco added.

There’s also a built-in daylight viewing display, full-size keyboard with dual pointing, up to 64GB solid state drive and up to 120GB hard drive capacity. The machine can be specified with Intel Core 2 Solo and Duo ULV processors, and has ATI Radeon X1250 UMA integrated graphics.

The Dell Latitude XT tablet computer is listed on Dell’s US website, and will be available to order by the end of the year. Pricing starts at $2,499 (£1,223).

While it has vowed to fight on in the courts, Apple’s German partner T-Mobile has decided to offer an unlocked version of the phone to consumers – for a whopping 999 Euros, or £717. When I suggested that Apple launch a more expensive SIM-free version of the iPhone in the UK, I wasn’t thinking ‘at the price of a 42in plasma’…

But hey, it’s a start. Unlocked iPhone buyers – Germany’s super-rich early adopter community – won’t get Visual Voicemail, because that’s a network-specific technology. Nor will they get a free Wi-Fi subscription. But they will get the chance to choose their mobile provider and EDGE or GPRS network.

It’s a lot to pay for such a privilege, sure, and it’s hardly likely to put blackmarket iPhone unlockers – most of whom charge somewhere in the region of £50 – out of business. But at least it’s a start.

Apple will now have to officially support unlocked iPhones in some form, which could mean it’ll be harder to re-lock SIM-free iPhones with new software updates. Particularly if the official SIM-free firmware is copied and distributed on the web (this would also get around Apple’s argument that unofficial SIM unlocks could damage iPhones).
