Software easter eggs – here are some of my favourites.

PHOTOSHOP CS2 – MERLIN LIVES!

1. Open Photoshop.
2. Open the Layers|Channels|Paths window (at least one of them)
3. Press the ALT key and hold it down. (Option Key on the Mac)
4. Click the right-arrow options button in the top-right of the Layers window, but hold the mouse button down or the menu will disappear.
5. Still holding down both the ALT key and the left mouse button, move your mouse over “Palate Options…”, and let go of the mouse.
6. Merlin!

GNOME – FISH CALLED WANDA

1. Goto the run dialog in Gnome.
2. Type the following phrase without quotes “free the fish
3. Click the Run Button.
A fish called Wanda should pop up and wander around the desktop

SKYPE – HIDDEN EMOTICONS

Just enter a chat session, type any of the following words, including the brackets, and enjoy the resulting emoticons:
(finger)
(bandit)
(mooning)
(swear)
(drunk)
(rock)
(poolparty)
(bug)
(ninja)
(smoking)
(fubar)
(tmi)

UTORRENT TETRIS

1. Select About in Help menu.
2. Press ‘T’ on the keyboard

PAINT – HIDDEN TOOLS

Open paint
These eggs require usage of your ctrl key, so if you use ctrl to select a tertiary color, you will most likely want to select it to be the same as your primary color when using these eggs. (Tertiary colors are selected by holding ctrl while picking a color.)
To stamp, select part of the image and hold ctrl while dragging it.
To scuff, select part of the image and hold shift while dragging it.
To use brush pressure, hold ctrl and press – or + on the keypad while drawing, spraying, or using a shape tool.
To draw straight or diagonal lines with the pencil, hold Shift and move the mouse in that direction.

OPENOFFICE.ORG – STAR WARS GAME

1. create a new sheetin openoffice.org Calc (spreadsheet)
2. enter this formula in a cell :
=game()
and validate (validation button or enter)
3.the cell will display “say what?”
4. Enter this formula:
=GAME(“StarWars”)
5. a new window will open with a little game star war game.
6. But if you type again this formula, the cell will return the display “oh no, not again!”
7. to be able to play again, you need to close the file, close openoffice.org and the QuickStarter, and then make the same.

GOOGLE EARTH FLIGHT SIMULATOR

Run the latest version of Google Earth(v4.2). Simply press Ctrl+Alt+A (or Command+Option+A in OS X).
A flight simulator in Google Earth will be launched.

FIREFOX INSIDE FIREFOX

1. Open Firefox
2. Enter the following in the address bar
chrome://browser/content/browser.xul

BOOK OF MOZILLA

The Book of Mozilla actually continues. If you are using Mozilla FireFox (re-branded from FireBird), you may find a continuation of the story mentioned in the easter egg in Mozilla.
1. Open up Mozilla FireBird
2. Into the Address field, type “about:mozilla” without the quotes and press Enter.
You may now read the excerpt from the book of Mozilla:
“And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.

And yes, you may also type the same into Internet Explorer, but you only get a dull blue background.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS2 – ADOBE SPACEMONKEY

Command (Apple) and Option keys and click “About Photoshop”.
For Windows users, press both CTRL and hold it down. Still pressing CTRL, click on the “Help” menu and select “About Photoshop…”.
